Exactly. Larger = Lower. So amping 10's is only going to give you low HZ and unless you put a crossover on it, it will be picking up as high as it can and it will sound like ass..

no, amping speakers are fine, but amp them as speakers, amp subs as subs.
I have an amp powering my 6.5" speakers and one powering my subwoofers, but the filters on what frequencies they play are completely different.
what are you wanting to do and I can give you a little direction as to what to install.
front speakers? rear speakers? subwoofers?

As Will said. Amping speakers is fine as long as you aren't wasting your time amping stock speakers lol. But as far as speakers go 10's are woofers. Now 6" speakers can do bass just fine if you are just wanting an in between low to mid sound. My tC came stock with a '6" subwoofer". Now it hit fine but of course I wanted a hard hitting and loud system so I still put mine in. But that speaker does put out bass as it should and I am sure it has a low pass on it. If the amp you got for your 10's has a built in low pass filter then it'd be fine, but then they'd just be subs and your 12 would be a waste really less you are going for just looks lol.

Ok i was going to do this to the back of my car, i have a 3 hole stereo box perfect for 3 10'' speakers
and i also have a sub enclosure perfect fitting at 12''
i was planning to amp these to make them sound the best, since the 10'' are a speaker/sub mix from what your saying and a 12 would be known as a sub then
Sooooo all in all i was going to get all these speakers (3 10inch and 1 12 inch) and amp it, although if this sounds sketchy to you then please can you MSN me sometime, btw YES im looking for something that can sound great and also have that BASS when i want it too
jamesewell@live.com i'll deff love to talk this over with you

I'll send you an invite here in a bit but we're not saying 10's are a mix. Now you can amp your 10's, and your 12 if you want. Your 10's will hit a bit higher than your 12, giving that in between. Also your 10's will hit better for a lot of metal and rock music because they are smaller so they can move quicker and be more accurate. Now a lot of people will say there's not enough of a difference to bother getting a 10 and that most 12s can do that as well, which they can, but if you mix the 10's and 12's you will be getting a wider spectrum of sound.

and a lot of sound cancellation, don't mix speaker sizes trying to do the same job, run some 6.5's up front, put a pair of 6.5's or 6x9's in the back (optional, many people don't even do a rear-fill) I have rear-fill because it sounds better when you're sitting in the back seat. (remember, the front speakers should always be dominant though, don't amp the rear speakers and not the front) If you want to get a little more intricate, you can look into some 7's or 8's for midbass, but that's not really necessary Also, never mix subwoofers, keep everything the same. running a 10 and 12 will cause cancellation, running a 12" alpine with a 12" pioneer will cause cancellation. Even buying one Sony sub and running it for 6 months then buying a brand new one of the same model and everything will cause some cancellation because they are worn differently. I'm just saying if you have or can easily get three 10's and one 12, run the 10's only because you'll have more cone area to move air/sound. adding the 12 will just cause cancellation. your other option would be to just run the 12, but I'd run the 10's hope this helps a lilttle

apparently he doesn't like our advice anyway, I got to thinking, you COULD run 10's and 12's if you set the amps up right. make the 10's run from like 80hz down to 60, then the 12 do 60 down to 40 on paper, that sounds awesome, but properly setting it up is another story btw, do you have any brands in mind?

actually yeah, i prefer kenwoods because i've seen their style of speakers,
kicker is cool too if you set it up properly, my friend has a 12 inch subwoofer and its O.K. but not too great
sooo i'll prob be going with kenwood, that is if you cant persuade me for something better hah

Kicker is loud but if u want any sq dont bother lol. I dont think they hit very "clean".
But I'm sure they would sound a bit better than mine right now if they had the right enclosure.
